shadow (2014) Original Mixed-media Sculpture by xktheory LTD

Light can be appreciated in different ways. For us, the unique and subtle abstract shapes and shadows created by sunlight reflected from windows onto the deep blue surface of a partition wall on the street, are a reminder to look closely and appreciate random moments of beauty. The canvas element of this piece was the starting point of this large scale minimal work. The glossy, metallic painted steel expands the piece inviting the viewer to become absorbed in the tiny star-like particles within the paint. The architectural, folded bi-coloured accents, hold everything together and transform 'shadow' into a sculpture rather than a framed two dimensional work. The apparent simplicity of the work hides the challenging processes of shaping, welding and designing a secure way of hanging the piece with industrial cable.
