"Amantha Tsaros, Ipnee, 2012" by Amantha Tsaros

“‘Ipnee’ is a nonsensical title I use to describe this gaggle of bounciness cavorting across the landscape. We are catching only a snippet of their movement across a plain – in the way that joy often just comes in a quick flash of well-being. My current work focuses on depicting our internal experiences. My monotypes include shapes and marks which recall spirits; forces that carry us through our days or challenge us mightily. In this case, I am presenting a lighthearted image to convey the weightlessness we feel during very happy times. When you are just so delighted that you feel as if you are floating.” - Amantha Tsaros

"Forest James , BALLERINA IN NEW YORK 2 (Series), 2012" by Forest James

“Each photo in BALLERINA IN NEW YORK series have the same story, I met this artist while staying at my friends flat on the lower east side of Manhattan. This was the house of Joseph Gordon Levitt (Looper, Inception, Brick and other movies), the creative influence of the house was everywhere. This subject was a theatrical dancer in NY and had such a unique demeanor I asked if while there she would let me photograph her. I was in Manhattan shooting with world renown photographer Richard Avedon and had just come out of a shoot with him. I have been told 93% of communication is body language, that we change 6 shades of color throughout a conversation and everything from the tension in our lips to where we breathe from (upper, middle or lower) all say something. The wonderful thing about working with an artist of this caliber is she is a master of her body and movement. Needless to say... she made my job very easy.” - Forest James

"Ben Robson Hull, The Queen's House Tulip Staircase, London - Limited Edition Print" by Ben Robson Hull

“I wanted to capture the pure abstract pattern of the staircase as it closely resembles the 'golden spiral' in geometry. In order to do this I had to ensure that I was pointing my camera vertically upwards, the lens being parallel with the ceiling. To capture the full width of the staircase but not include the first window was quite tricky compositionally. I used my wide angle lens at 16mm on my full frame Nikon D800 to capture the image. It has been slightly cropped to get the best perspective post capture. A black and white conversion enables the pure shape and form to dominate the image without any distraction from colour. I owe some thanks to the security guard who was on duty on the day as he allowed me to lie flat on the floor with my head and camera dead centre of the spiral looking straight up into the centre of the skylight. I did get some funny looks from the other visitors!” - Ben Hull

"Susan Josepher, Particle Attractions, 2013" by Susan Josepher

“Particle Attractions is a close-up view of imaginative subatomic particles interacting to their mutual benefit. Inspired by images from the Hubble Telescope, they were invented to inhabit my Unseen Cosmos. Since 73% of our universe is unseen I decided that was permission enough to create my own--a peaceful, colorful, interactive universe filled with floating, bumping, evolving, devolving objects and creatures, in various states of welcoming interconnectedness.” - Susan Josepher

"Stephania Savva, Dancing away the passion" by Stephania Savva

“It was during my years at university when I had turned my bedroom into a studio and was painting non-stop. Following a latin lesson I was inspired to start this painting yet my brushes had worn out from extensive use. I was so passionate to start the painting that I decided to use my hands instead of a brush. It was such an invigorating and child-like experience for me who was drawn to creating detailed work to use the paint directly on canvas, so unforced... I ended up painting the whole thing without a brush and now I often prefer this technique for creating texture.” - Stephania Savva

"Maurice Sapiro, Sky On Fire, 2006" by Maurice Sapiro

“Always trying something new to keep the inspiration flowing, I experimented with diluted oil paint on paper. Degas had done this so successfully, I thought I would give it a try. In order to protect the paper from the effects of oil, I first prepared it with gesso. The transparency and flow of the paint resulted in a unique image, one I am proud of. As I watched the image form, I realized that I was just along for the ride---the pigment took over.” - Maurice Sapiro

"Douglas Newton, Cerise, 2013" by Douglas Newton

“Sometimes I will combine colored tissue paper with other objects for my paintings. One day, seeing the beautiful effect of light through fuchsia colored translucent paper, I decided the paper alone would make a visually rich subject. The painting was challenging but satisfying to complete. The title Cerise, meaning cherry in French, is a color somewhere between fuchsia or magenta and red. There are many colors in the painting, but they add up to Cerise.” - Douglas Newton

"Natalie Ryde, Carneceria, 2013" by Natalie Ryde

“Carneceria is a painting with collage based on a drawing made in Astorga, Spain outside a butcher's shop. I was captivated by huge hams hanging from the ceiling, with little umbrellas suspended underneath them to catch the dripping fat in the heat. As I was drawing the butcher kept popping his head out of the door and proudly pointing out the elaborate cast-iron door handles. Carneceria is part of a small series of paintings made in response to traveling in the Basque Country and Northern Spain. The paintings explore notions of regional identity and a desire for individuality.” - Natalie Ryde

"Jane Sherwood, The Lemon Tree, 2010" by Jane Lees

“'The Lemon Tree' represents my return to serious painting in 2010 after many years of abstinence. I have always loved art, but needed to find my way again with a paintbrush and literally dust of my easel. We had just finished building an extension to our home, and the light-filled room leading onto the garden had newly painted white walls that needed some vibrant colour. We had also just bought a lemon tree in a pot for the patio. This formed the basis for the composition, along with a well loved jug that features on the table in the painting.” - Jane Sherwood

"Dariusz Klimczak, Ringman" by Dariusz Klimczak

“I live near the Baltic Sea and the shifting sand dunes, that are for me a great source of inspiration. Every time seaside landscape looks different, gives me an unforgettable experience. I have a large series of works with people on stilts in the dunes, which I really like. Gained recognition in many galleries in the world. It's one of those works. I hope that you will like it.” - Dariusz Klimczak
