"Moby Dick" by Flo

“Based on the adventurous story by Herman Melville of one man and his chase of one whale, this cut out piece encapsulates the ship ever chasing the whale that won't be caught. This piece is part of the Literary Characters collection.”

"Drawn" by David Rees

“I love creating powerful images that I find beauty in. I try to paint in a free style with thick applications of paint straight off a palette knife. Mixing heavy strokes of paint with finer hints of colour creates an alluring, captivating image that reflects the subject of the work itself, the female form. My style of painting attempts to reflect its subject matter by being dominant yet subtle, beautiful and mysterious.”

"Bad hare day?, 2014" by Ruth McCabe

Quirky study of the Brown Hare, who on this occasion seems in a little disarray! Drawn loosely to exaggerate the wonderful harum sacrum nature of one of my favourite creatures of our local landscape here in east Suffolk; this piece is worked using intense solid watercolour sticks. I think we've all had days like this!

"Sunlit Hare" by Denise Laurent

“I love hares and I wanted to capture that alert posture, when the hare pricks up his wonderful, huge ears and keeps an eye out for trouble. The sun is coming from behind him, it fills his fur with warm, golden light and throws his lilac shadow out in front of him.” Shop our feature collection, "Easter Bunnies and Spring Chicks" - https://www.artfinder.com/story/easter-bunnies-and-chicks/

"Be yourself (A4), 2014" by Jane Mutiny

“I designed this poster as part of a graduate project called 'Advice to sink in slowly', where ex-students from my University were asked to create a design depicting some advice for new students. 'Be yourself' was my advice. When you arrive at University and suddenly find yourself amongst unfamiliar faces and new expectations, it can be daunting. Many people feel that they need to be more like others in order to fit in, but I want people who see my poster to realise that your true self comes out through your art and that is something which must be embraced, whether you are a student or not.”

"Mother, child and angel, 2013" by David England

“Unseen by the mother the angel protects the child. With eyes closed they share the moment, at peace within the world around them. I have carved Mother and Child images for years but this time wanted to use the ‘guardian angel’ to make the piece a truly three-dimensional carving. The angel was inspired by a cherub up in the left-hand corner of Raphael’s Baldacchino Madonna; the folds in the cloth and the position of the legs amaze me. The stone is from a small quarry in Ancaster, in the East of England.”

"Cats Eyes, 2014" by Beatrice Margaret

“Recently, I have started creating more works which have a playful, childlike appeal, and this painting is one of them. A colourful acrylic and pen illustration which will appeal to adult cat lovers, as well as being suitable to hang in children's rooms or in the nursery. Fun, whimsical and quirky, this mixed media piece was inspired my my own beautiful kitty who sadly passed away recently.”

"Rush Hour, 2013" by Ronald van der Ligt

“When I first moved to London I was surprised how travellers cramp themselves in to overloaded tubes, refusing to wait for the next one to arrive in a minute. After a couple of years you are just one of them and do your best to get in there. You can imagine it feels sometimes like being a sardine in its tin waiting for it to open. I have tried to capture that claustrophobic feeling in this photograph.”

"Back Again!, 2014" by Paul Cemmick

“A nude young woman's back drawn from life in pencil with shading in watercolour. In all of my work I try to emphasise the psychological aspect of the pose; in this case the woman is gazing off to her left but as we can't see her expression it is left up to to the viewer to decide if she is happy or sad.”

"Gymnopedie, 2014" by Liam Hennessy

“This canvas is built up in layers of ink and acrylic paint. The shapes and forms that emerged in creating this work might be glyphs or symbols, and the painting lies somewhere between a kind of language and pure abstraction. I was particularly inspired by the symbols of musical notation and the vibrations and rhythms created by applying layers of contrasting colour and sinuous line.”
