My current method of painting Colorado landscapes is to use palette knives and thick layers of impasto. It is through the use of palette knives and thick layers of paint that I am able to create a 3-dimensional effect that captures the beauty and texture of the Colorado landscape.

Painting poppy flowers on canvas with a palette knife and thick layers of impasto

With a palette knife and thick layers of impasto, I paint Colorado landscapes or flowers. As of right now, I'm working with them like this. The layers of paint and palette knives give my paintings a 3-dimensional look. Using colors, textures, and shapes, I build up my paintings to create a unique 3-D effect.

Mixed-media painting on canvas of autumn birch trees with yellow, orange, and red leaves. By creating thick, textured brushstrokes with the palette knife, I captured the rustling of the trees in the background and the texture of my horse's mane.

The Scarlet Sails were painted in oils with a palette knife for Danielle

The Scarlet Sails were painted in oils with a palette knife for Danielle

This is a portrait of Danielle, based on the adventure novel "Scarlet Sails" written by Alexander Grin, which I used on the certificate I signed for you, but you can call it anything you like. You can find translation of the story here: His novella Scarlet Sails, first published in 1923, is very popular in Russia. It's lyrical, romantic, and almost magical. Alexander Grin was a writer who specialized in romantic short stories when the Petrograd Revolution hit in 1917. After serving in the Red Army for a short period of time, he returned to the city, where he met a young woman named Nina. Alexander was so taken by her that he wrote perhaps his best known novel with a young woman like her as the main character, "Alye Parusa," or "The Scarlet Sails." In 1923, this beautiful fairy tale took place in a fictional land where Longren, a sailor, went to work making toys while caring for Assol, his young daughter, after the premature death of his wife. In the forest, the young woman chased a toy boat, one she was supposed to sell, where she met an old man named Aigle, who claimed he was a great wizard. His prediction was that she would be taken away to a faraway land on a ship with scarlet sails by a prince someday. Although she was teased for believing the old man afterward, she believed him nonetheless. Eventually, a ship captain (with the English name of Arthur Grey) came along and fell in love with her, and when he learned of the prediction, he decked his ship with scarlet sails and swept her off her feet.

A collection of oil paintings hangs on the gallery wall. My technique for painting layers was to use a palette knife and thick layers of paint. The use of a palette knife and thick layers adds texture and depth to the paintings. This makes the paintings more dynamic and visually appealing, as the different layers and textures catch the light in different ways.

Sunflower Field painting in progress by OLena Art

Sunflower Field painting in progress by OLena Art

With a palette knife. It's not finished, but worth sharing. Sunflowers are her favorite subject! Her palette knife creates thick impasto paint layers that bring the painting to life. As a result, the sunflower field is beautifully captured with vibrant colors and striking textures. In this painting, the impasto technique gives the sunflower petals a feeling of depth, creating a feeling of being in the field. Sunflower Field painting in progress by OLena Art
