    Colour me in!

    Colour me in!

I decided to drain the colour from this pic of me in my studio, just as a lovely reminder of how amazing colour is! Can you imagine a world without it? I can't. So happy to be an artist who works with colour.

    An artwork in itself!

    An artwork in itself!

I don't know where I would be without my various pairs of dungarees. These are the oldest. Being able to not worry about where the paint goes is an essential part of the process! Looks like the dungarees have become an artwork!

    Melting Pastels!

    Melting Pastels!

Working outside is not often an option as the slightest breeze means little particles can get into the paint. I have braved it with oil pastels on this piece though, how long do you think it took before the pastels started to melt?!?! About 5 minutes. Love the light and love the summer though!

    Exhibiting now . . .

    Exhibiting now . . .

Delighted that Beginnings has been selected for Grey Cube’s 2021 Exhibition and been given an honourable mention. To view the exhibition, please go to the Grey Cube Gallery website. I love beginnings….every time I start a new piece, it feels like going on an adventure, it feels like the very start of something exciting. I love that I don’t know where the paint will take me and that there is this trust that whatever happens will be positive.

    Paint everywhere!

    Paint everywhere!

This is typical of just how messy my hands get when I am working on a piece. I'm liking the colours of this 'work in progress'....prefer them on the canvas to my hands though.

    Beautiful Green

    Beautiful Green

As well as blue, I love green - so many shades, so calming and yet so energising. This is a work in progress.

    Love, love, love inks!

    Love, love, love inks!

I mainly work with acrylic paints but sometimes I get the inks out and have a big play with them too. I love the way they flow like a river on the canvas. These little guys are all ready to go to work!

    Its all about the layers!

Each painting has many layers of textures and paint and this is about the half way point. For each session (and layer) I am totally immersed in the process - this is focused and yet relaxed. Acrylic paint dries much quicker than oils so it is important to be in this 'zone' to work with it i.e. when the paint is neither dry nor too wet! I don't use traditional brushes as I prefer to work with the paint with other tools including sponges. I've always worked on the floor, somehow it gives me a stronger sense of connection with what is unfolding! It is important to me to literally go with the flow. I have a feeling of what I want to create but am very open as to how the paint 'wants' to be!

    Spring Colours!

    Spring Colours!

This is what today's colour palette looks like. All mixed up and ready to go onto the blank canvas - something which never fails to excite me as it is like travelling and discovering some place new!
