Street work - Tuffnell Park / Junction Road

Here's my latest street art / mural - this time painted on Junction Road, near Tuffnell Park tube. It's a tokyo scene, shinjuku, from my trip last February, and painted in my Urban impressionistic style of painting, using modern medium, freehand spray paint! The versatility of the spray can is often overlooked, it's an incredible medium, that allows som many beautiful marks to be made, drips, blends, blurs, hard lines, a real physical and energetic way to paint, throwing your whole body into the wall, a spray paint workout!

'Autumn in New York City' - freehand painting

'Autumn in New York City' - freehand painting

Autumn in New York City' - I love the way that each season of the year and each city around the world has it's own very distinct colour palette. It's almost a visual language, a key, that once understood allows the mood and atmosphere of a city to be conveyed with only subtle use of colours...I wanted to revisit my New York images to explore the muted, natural, earthy palette that some cities have, feel free to share!

'Guardian' - My latest 'Future Tokyo / Hong Kong' illustration - huge robot protector, accompanying an assassin on the rain soaked streets of Future Tokyo. STrange shadowy figures, push through the crowds, rain beating down, steam hissing, neon lights crackling in the humid air

    Hong Kong - 'Rainy Streets'

    Hong Kong - 'Rainy Streets'

So here's my first Hong Kong inspired painting! It takes a while to get to grips with the mood, atmosphere, colouring and palette of a new city. Even though this is a day scene and not my more regular night scenes ( which will come, don't worry! ) theres something very beautiful about the streets around Nathan Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. Bustling, busy, signs, neon, people, umbrellas, cables and chaos, it had a real intensity and complex architecture, that to me is unique and something i wanted to capture!

'The Queen Of Neon' - Brick Lane

'The Queen Of Neon' - Brick Lane

Full wall shot, 'The Queen Of Neon' - 23 Heneage Street / Brick Lane - at 5th Base Gallery! An epic two days painting this huge, 30ft x 20ft wall for 5th Base Gallery. I really wanted to paint one of my new Geishas in London, I have the companion wall on East Street in Bristol for Upfest this year and felt London would be great for a large scale geisha! She's the spirit of Tokyo, generating all the neon from her hair, cables and wires spread out like tendrils from her, all over the city, giving her the life energy, the pulse of the city, she gazes down on her people on the rain soaked streets below. ( Geishas is based on my collaboration and photographs with Ayumi LaNoire )

It's at Arlington ( Housing association ) in Camden, London and forms part of their overall improvements to the building, this mural being the focus of the dining area, Hopefully it will bring a positive and vibrant atmosphere for the residents whilst they have their food! smile emoticon It's a really amazing place which helps the homeless and provides such a invaluable service, with incredible friendly staff. I met some lovely people and super friendly residents who all seemed very positive and enthusiastic about my art.
