    PREPARING A LARGE CANVAS

    Four stages of preparation, ready to start work on a very large canvas. 1. I stretch the heavy grade cotton canvas over a large old temporary stretcher. 2. The canvas is pulled fairly tight, but allowing some slack. 3. The canvas is prepared with two coats of size, then three of Primer Gesso, this protects, seals and pulls the last bit of slack out of the canvas. 4. The gesso is dry, and I can make the first few marks, and so it begins. On completion, the canvas will be removed from the stretchers and rolled for shipping. Having the canvas re-stretched at your framers is relatively inexpensive and much cheaper that shipping on the stretcher. I then re-use the stretcher bars for the next large piece of work. Why go to all this trouble? Keep shipping cost low or free Shipping extra large paintings, rolled in a tube, offers much greater protection in transit Professional quality canvas is used I'm a perfectionist!

    I'm back

    I'm back in the UK after an inspiring month abroad painting. My shop has now re-opened, and I've already sold 3 paintings in the first week. I look forward to showing you some more sunny work soon.
