New York has a few secrets up her sleeve. Even in the City that never sleeps there are a few moments of peace. The first is on Sunday mornings before 10 am. Streets that were once bustling are quiet, there are no crowds, you can take a break and enjoy living at the center of the universe. The second is in the rain. The pavement needs it--fake nature too. Broadway and Times Square become as romantic as snaking back alleys in the 18th Arrondissement. The rain drives crowds into cabs and makes the bootleg Disney characters and theater barkers scatter. It is then that from under an umbrella you can watch as the raindrops turn the bright lights into impressionism. It could all be a dream but it isn’t you are here and the bright lights are yours.
