As of 2016, Cats is the fourth-longest-running show in Broadway history, and was the longest running Broadway show in history from 1997 until 2006 when it was surpassed by The Phantom of the Opera. Cats is the sixth-longest-running West End musical. It has been performed around the world many times and has been translated into more than 20 languages.
CATS, the musical , is definitely UNDEAD.
I decided to add a little glamour to this piece of painting using gold glitter to show that , cats, generally are a "glamorous" species. They are aloof, graceful, of unfailing dignity, with mysterious expanding and contracting eyes and very poised. Most of all, they have nine lives.
Instead of using the original caption for the CATS poster, "Let the memories live again", extracted from the theme song. I painted in gold, glittering, blood strokes - short and succinct "LIVE AGAIN".
The cackled effect of the black is created to contrast with the glittering gold. Resin is used to create the glassy look of the CAT's eyes.
This is my fun and slight kitschy interpretation of this well loved musical.
