What appealed to me about this motif was that every single reed stalk, together with its mirror image, has its own horizontal mirror axis. This is due to the different distances between the stalks. The ensemble of stalks and their mirror images are often reminiscent of Japanese characters. The color is created by the reflection of the sky. I discovered the motif 10 years ago and then looked for it again every spring without success. I only found it again last year. The fact that it is so rare is due to the fact that it requires special conditions: in winter the lake must be frozen over. Then there must be a storm that breaks the stalks a few centimeters above the ice surface. And in spring the lake has to be as smooth as a mirror to reflect the short pieces of reed and the sky should have nice colours. Other sizes on request.
