This piece was inspired by our visit to Maine and in particular to the Olson House a Colonial farmhouse in Cushing, Maine. The house was made famous by its depiction in Andrew Wyeth's Christina's World. The house and its occupants, Christina and Alvaro Olson, were depicted in numerous paintings and sketches by Wyeth from 1939 to 1968. The house was designated as a National Historic Landmark in June 2011. The Farnsworth Art Museum owns the house; it is open to the public.
I am very much inspired by the works of Andrew Wyeth and it was a pleasure to visit this house and to hear stories of life here from the wonderful volunteers that work here who knew the Olson family and Andrew Wyeth. I can highly recommend a visit if your nearby and don't forget to pay your respects to Andrew who is buried nearby.
