One of a series of work exploring young stags in late summer/ early autumn. This work was begun in pen and ink, then worked into with white pastel and graphite. I visited a Warwickshire stately home parkland herd in 2015 and captured some beautiful images of the yearlings relaxing together in golden low light just after rain. It was an idyllic atmosphere, a moment when time seems to have stood still.
I am fascinated by the sculptural quality of the newly grown antlers, and have worked on a number of pen, brush and ink drawings which examine these.
