Original artwork description:

This painting is inspired by an etching of an unknown pupil of Rembrandt which is known as “Young Man Seated, with a Game Bag”. I liked the idea of taking this image and producing an oil painting since I, as an oil portrait painter, can also consider myself a “student” of Rembrandt. I tried to use similar colours as Rembrandt would have used and painted in both traditional and contemporary oil painting techniques to keep the style similar to my own work. I also tried to evoke a sense of mystery and complexity in this portrait of this unknown sitter. The use of visible brushstrokes and somewhat unfinished quality is of special importance to me too as it gives an added dimension to my work.
