Artist's description:

These series of pepper paintings explore the still life object and the act of observing a pepper light changes how it is perceived throughout the days painted and evidencing its gradual disintegration.

These oil paintings evolved over time, adding and subtracting, rubbing out, scrapping off and beginning again, exploring structure, composition, form etc. whilst simultaneously observing its gradual disintegration over time.

Each of these paintings took over a couple of weeks, allowing the pepper to change, recording the motion of time through its changing form and colour. It is a symbol for using energy wisely: as this is what a yellow pepper is considered to represent within the sphere of the dream.

The paintings were constructed during the political timescale of what was happening between the UK and Russia. Here I alluded to the simple fact that one must use energy wisely - to accept the responsibility of not wasting energy. The painting itself contains the energy utilised in its production, including all versions that existed previously, before being removed, yet all contributing to the final painting through the practice of painting over and over again, until it became the image of a pepper and time.

Through the observation of this pepper, two paintings have been created so far - each revealing a difference in their structure, whilst others are currently being produced to record the further disintegration of the fruit and ultimately becoming a symbol of wasted energy.
