Artist's description:

This piece is one of a series of related pieces exploring the concept of self, the other, and shadow self. It was inspired upon contemplating the idea of xenophobia – the fear of foreigners and strangers. I started to draw these black figures against a start white background to represent the sense of the “other,” the mysterious, and sometimes frightening stranger and darkness that is in all of us.

Meanwhile, each of these pieces began to take on a life of their own, where the people in them seemed to have their own stories and they somehow became relatable, as you yourself start to identify with them. This piece comes framed with a simple black frame and is wired to hang.

Materials used:

acrylic and clear gloss
