Artist's description:

This is an encaustic piece (also known as hot wax painting) which is created by using heated beeswax to which colored pigments and dammar resin have been added. Its a form of art that dates back to the ancient Egyptians who used it for their mummy portraits and it is very hardwearing and beautiful. The hot liquid or paste is applied to an absorbent surface, usually prepared wood or paper and manipulated using natural hair brushes or metal tools. Here I have used it on paper as I had a life drawing which I wished to develop further and then mounted on board. Its translucent and textural and needs no special protection other than a gentle rub with a soft cloth to buff it occasionally.
