Artwork description:

I saw a sculpture by Carl Cauer titled Hexe (Witch) at Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin. It was instant love for me. This is a magnificent neo-classical sculpture made in 1874. The owl, the snake and the bat wings just blew my mind, not to mention the net she was sitting on. I took reference photos and came back to my studio and created this painting. Here, I am using a limited palette of grisaille which I thought would make the scene adequately darker, more mysterious and a little but scary. She is a witch after all!

I am fascinated with aesthetics of beauty. In my work, I am constantly looking for opportunities and compositions that help create a timeless work of art. I like to design an artwork while considering where it is viewed from, which is usually standing a couple of meters away. Up close, the surface may appear chaotic, but when you step back, suddenly the whole picture comes to view looking like a three-dimensional object.

I aim for an emotional reaction in each piece--optimism, calmness, sadness, fear, content, mystery and so on. I work in a variety of mediums simply because I like them all. Each has its own strengths and it is useful to exploit them for each specific topic.
With my engineering background and keen interest in psychology, I naturally pay a lot of attention to detail while composing and creating my works. Often, each work takes a considerable amount of time to produce, but I love it, so I don’t mind. The craft is just as important as the creativity and I put every effort to make sure a collector of my work would feel as strongly as I do about the art I create. If I can achieve that, I will be happy.

Each painting is packaged carefully in bubble wrap, with protected corners and placed in a carboard box. They are marked as fragile for the courier to handle with care. Delivery is tracked.

All paintings are signed on the front. Some are also signed on the back. A certificate of authenticity is included with each painting.

I have provided in context images so you can get a feel for the painting. Please note that images in context are provided as a guide and although they roughly represent the size, are not to scale. Provided for illustration purposes only.
