Artwork description:

It is 1948 and young West Indian men stand on a dockside in Jamaica, studying a newspaper. In port behind them lies the British troop carrier 'Empire Windrush' that will convey 1027 passengers and 2 stowaways to London. The ship lent its' name to British Caribbean people who settled in the United Kingdom after World War 2, popularly known as the 'Windrush generation'. At the top of the picture I have added two dabs of colour, yellow representing optimism and the sunny skies of the Caribbean and the opposite colour purple representing hostility and the clouded skies of Britain. Scandalous actions of the British government snagging the 'Windrush generation' precipitated the resignation of the Home Secretary and further destabilised the precarious government of Theresa May.

technical note
This print is pulled from a relief plate cut from rubber, a variation of letterpress. The completed edition made 5 copies. The print is on a sheet measuring 11x13 inches (280x330mm).
