The possibility of sudden change in this painting is what I was after. I wanted to get the atmosphere across of the wind on the sea and sheets of rain blowing across the sky. I deliberately built up the structure of the sky and sea in parts for this contrast between turbulence that seems so permanent when it's there and the wispy clouds that you know won't last too long. Well, in theory they don't.
There is some colour in here but you have to hunt it down like you do sometimes in Ireland on days like this.
