I love the coastal areas in Yorkshire and the unique and mysterious Whitby Abbey has been an inspiration for artists throughout history. The view from this part of Sandsend, looking across the sea to the hills towards Whitby and the Abbey is one of my favourite scenes and will always inspire me.
I am drawn to the sea, its beauty, its ceaseless motion and its mystery.
I have created this seascape using paper maps with areas cut out from the oceans of the world to create the beautiful colours of the sea and the wave-whipped sea bed. The hills and buildings are also from maps and include parts of images that decorate the borders of old English maps.
