Artist's description:

This piece is made up of both acrylic paint and paper on plywood. The variety of materials and thickness of paint adds to the textures and tactile quality of the work. The wood has a 3cm backing which gives it a substantial, physical feel but it is lightweight so it can be hung easily. The paper included in the piece is protected with a layer of Liquitex which will increase the longevity of the work and stop the paper from ageing.

The imagery within the work was influenced by a recent trip to Japan. I was inspired by the tiles, pastel colours and geometry of the contemporary architecture in Tokyo and Hiroshima. Throughout my trip I also came across many stationary stores where beautiful paper in a variety of patterns, colours and textures was sold. I incorporated the paper I gathered into this fictional landscape to try and create sense of the things I saw and experienced.
