Whernside is the highest mountain in Yorkshire and makes up one of the famours Yorkshire Three Peaks. There is a very popular track across the top of it coming from Ribblehead that is actually quite monotonous. For this print, I chose a less well-know route up Whernside from Dentdale, taking in another hill on the way. The best thing about this walk was that we also got to see the upland tarns (lakes) which most people doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks won't even know about! This print is inspired by the view of the peak of Whernside after having just passed the tarns.
I could see a little line of people bobbing along the side of Whernside, see if you can spot them in the picture! The faint horizontal band of blue/grey/green is actually Ingleborough in the far distance.
I love to print in a more painterly way and have inked up this plate all in one go, then run it through my printing press. I find it more expressive using this technique than the traditional reduction linocut or multi-plate method.
