Artist's description:

This painting is from my 2014 'Secrets & Skies' series. These paintings were about the way in which open spaces bear silent witness to our thoughts, emotions and secrets. All my paintings are a reflection of that inner dialogue with the Landscape.

This particular painting is a loose view of Newgale beach near my studio in Pembrokeshire on the west coast of Wales, following the violent storms which battered the coastline and literally washed the beach inland, obliterating the road and damaging property. However, to me this painting is less literal, it is about the feelings of relief and recovery after an emotional 'drama'.

The painting has been built up in many layers and combines a variety of techniques; staining and glazing in thin layers, gradually building up thickness and texture. Paint has been applied with brushes, knives, and sometimes fingers! It is painted, scraped, flicked, spattered and poured on, and sometimes off again, until the finished painting presented itself.

The title is an ambiguous wordplay on both the location and the subject matter.
