Done in a natural earth palette of blue, green, white, teal, purple, yellow ochre and hints of orange and magenta this abstract monoprint measures 12" (30.48 cms) x 9"(22.86 cms) with the image going right to the edge of the paper. There are two what appears to be footprints left in the colour (lower right). It reminds me of fossilized footprints from an animal that roamed our earth and has since long gone. It's like an echo from the past. That is why I titled this monoprint, "What Remains".
In monoprinting chance plays a big part - you have to work very quickly and get one crack at it. When it works it's fantastic - the colours move, melt and shift in a very vibrant and determined manner. No wishy-washy controlled brush strokes. It's magnificent. When it doesn't work, you get scrap paper.
The back of the print may have paint smudges on as it's part of the immediacy of the process. I can't stop to clean my hands and sometimes the paint oozes over the back, but it in no way harms the image on the front. The paper is quite thick.
