Question for the artist?

Artist's description:

This was one of those bothersom brilliant ideas that wakes you up, just as you are drifting off to sleep. You leap out of bed and scramble down the stairs for a sketchbook before the image fades.

I think this picture has to do with the secret of souls... the cave is reminiscent of the shape of a human skull and the stars... well, they speak infinity.

I have also entered this piece in the ArtFinder/Liquitex competition with the theme of "What Does Muted Mean to You?" Of course, this is an easy step for me, as I have always leaned towards limited palettes and muted colours. This particular painting of the little boy with a handful of stars gets its energy from the almost neon blue used for the glowing stars, which would not have the same impact if not for the muted pink/siennas in the jacket and the hidden pinks and violets in the face. The muted greys shifting to black in the cave enhance the low-key of the painting and suggest the quiet, internal wonder of the human spirit.
