Watermelon has always been my favourite fruit and although I've painted it many times before, this is the first time I've painted the whole circular fruit in one canvas. It's presented as if one quarter has been sliced away revealing the juicy red fruit underneath, but with the textured green outer still intact on the other quarter. Because of that composition it can be displayed any way up.
I love painting and illustrating food in a simple, bold and bright style that is heavily influenced by classic pop art and modern graphic design, and this canvas is no different. I'm less concerned with realism in my art, more with creating direct, memorable images that you'll want to hang in your home.
It is painted on cotton canvas that's ready to hang as the colours go around the edge. The painting is signed and dated on the back as pictured.
