One of the quietest, most beautiful places in west Wales is Bosherston waterlily ponds- a semi wild series of pools criss-crossed by bridges, surrounded by paths and lagoons; hunted by herons and dived into by cormorants. The waters are at once clear and sparkley, full of lily flowers and bursting with life; inky and deep, aubergine and menacing. Early in the morning they harbour mists and mysteries, later they shine with the sea breeze as though they were treasure troves. I built up layers of paint to create the depth and reflections, then added soft touches of pinks and greens for the lilies.
And next to the car park is Mrs Violet Weston (aged 88, MBE)'s Olde Worlde Cafe for lots of tea and cake.
