In ancient Egypt, the image of the lily was associated with creation, birth, renewal of vitality and rebirth. In China, the water lily was revered as a sacred plant even before the spread of Buddhism and personified purity and chastity, fertility and productive power. In Buddhism this flower is dedicated to the Buddha, symbolizes spiritual unfoldment, wisdom and nirvana.
