Artist's description:

This artwork is a relief painting: it has been carved into a wooden surface and then painted like any conventional work of art. It has a raised and very tactile relief and feel.
it measures 22 inches tall by 30 inches wide.
It is hard to describe my artworks under the dimensions provided by artfinder, I have my own style, I tell stories about people and life in all its complicated glory. For more info look up my bio. This particular relief painting is a visual narrative that can be best described with a poem (of my own origin)

"Wading in the Ghost River"
If you stood at the edge of
The Ghost River,
Thinking of wading in,
Would you cross it, or
Would it cross you?
Would it become your depth, or
Would you sink into its depths?
Would the Ghost River
Cool you,
Still you
Sway you gently
Into the sweet
And soothing
How it heals and cleanses
Those open cuts,
Broken bones and bruises.
How it washes away
The past histories of hurt.
How it cradles you
As you become
A part of its gently rolling wave,
Sliding down and over
The polished backs of bedrock.
Like many others before you...
Would you recognize this Ghost River
Your Ghost River,
In your day-to-day existence?
Are you already a part of it?
Getting caught in its motion,
The safe and reliable routine,
So safe that it becomes
A goal, a purpose, this
Eventual drift
Would you do it?
Would you be unsettled
By the safe and secure and the eventual?
Would you plant your
Anchor, Midstream
Break the eventual comfort in two
And hear the once serene waves
Crash and roar around you,
As you plow
Against the current?
Would you break
The flatline rhythm of the
Ghost River and
Sing? A song of Fire
And elbow and claw
And push through the
Slumber, when you feel
The Ghost
Peel away from
The Living,
Skin and Mind alike.
Would you have the courage
To be Alive?
As you wade in this
Ghost River,
Your Ghost River.
