I have for years, been meaning to take time to do some paintings that have the feeling of the Vintage Travel Posters that were popular In the 1930's and 40's, particularly advertising the Towns along the French Riviera... During my months in France, I am always reinspired, since I see reproductions of these in shops all around me... some of the Illustrators of the day, became quite reknowned for their "Travel Posters", and for the most sought after illustrators of the day, their lives changed overnight... This piece started as a pencil drawing, but the more I looked at it, the more I wanted to see it in color.... For this image, I used as models, a couple who became close friends of the F. Scott Fitzgeralds; and were among the Artists who were some of the first Ex Patriots, to settle year 'round on the Cote D'azur. The Lemons used in the borders, refrence the fact that Menton is the "Citron Capitol" of France..... This Painting is done on heavy Watercolor Paper, and ready to pop into a frame. ***If preferred, I can mount it on MDF or Canvas, for an additional $20.
