'Le Pic Saint-loup ' is the emblematic mountain in the Montpellier area and can be seen for a hundred miles around. The area is famous for its wines (appelation 'Pic Saint-Loup' ). This oil painting was made in the artist's studio over a period of several months using the glazing technique (thin transparent layers of paint -9 to 15 depending on the pigments). He used sketches and watercolours made on location on early autumn mornings as studies.
