In this painting my focus was on the gondolas, which silently traverse the maze of canals supplying the tourists and locals with one of the main modes of transportation. The working gondoliers and the way they are positioned in the composition create implied movement and represent a culture unique to Venice. The colorful reflections of the multi-colored buildings in the water, covering the majority of the canvas, became almost abstract in my mind when envisioning the palette and patterns. Within most of the colors of the water the shapes are broken down into a lighter and darker variation of that color. Complementary colors are played off each other. The blending of colors created the softness of this painting. Venice is a painter's paradise!
