Original artwork description:

Vanitas is a genre of painting, still life, reminiscent of the transience of life, the mandatory attribute of which is the human skull.
The objects depicted in the painting have an allegorical meaning:
The skull is a reminder of the inevitability of death.
Flowers are a symbol of love and sex.
Extinguished candle-departure of the human soul.
Playing cards or dice are a sign of a mistaken life goal.
The smoking pipe is a symbol of fleeting pleasures.
Carnival mask-a sign of irresponsible pleasure.
Glass ball-a symbol of vanity.
Hourglass and mechanical clock - the transience of time.
Musical instruments, notes-a symbol of the ephemeral nature of life.
Flowers can be interpreted in the same way, and a peeled lemon was, like life, attractive to look at but bitter to taste.

For me it was difficult to resist contributing to the collection of paintings of this genre, which flourished in the 16th and 17th centuries.
