Creating happy, serene, inspirational paintings since 1975.
This is a HAPPY painting, one that will bring Joy to those that view it. There is powerful healthy emotions that come from seeing Flowers and Art like this. See my bio for the science behind it, but essentially, happiness, inspiration, peace and calm come from this form of art.
Being an self employed artist allows me to sometimes stretch my wings. Being comfortable with a technique used in creating oil paintings, I always like to try something new. Just to see if I can be successful in creating a work that mirrors the style in which I'm trying.
This painting is one of those times. I plan on doing several in this style, but for right now, I offer you my interpretation of a Van Gogh styled work. And one of his most popular flower, the sunflower.
Lots of folks believe the he just slapped paint to canvas, but upon close inspection of his work, you will see each stroke was deliberate and planned. It was difficult for me to follow suit in creating this one, but I'm very happy with the results.
Using very thick paint, each stroke was applied and little to now blending or rework of that stroke took place. Color mixing took place on the palette and not of the canvas.

I show the paintings I'm working on through out the entire process, before I even post them to my website, you could own one of these creations of beauty!
My paintings are created using a time honored technique. Developed and perfected by Dutch and Italians in the 1600's. (Flemish Technique) Yea, it's that old. It involves several layers of paint and a great deal of time. It is not a Bob Ross style work, it is not a "recreation" which is a copy of an original work. It takes longer than 30 minutes to produce, but rather days, and sometimes weeks.
The eyes are said to be the windows to our soul. When viewing art, we are allowing that beauty to enter our soul, to enlighten, uplift, and inspire our being in ways that have been proven to enrich our lives. Put some art into your soul today!
What do I paint? Things of beauty. It's just that simple.
I create my paintings out of need. It's not something I have much choice with. Painting is my drug. When I'm not painting, or my schedule keeps me away from my easel, I'm grumpy, irritable, distant and moody. When painting, I'm in my element. All is right with the world. It makes me feel whole and human.
The importance that I view in my work is it forces us to stop and take a look at the beauty that surrounds us everywhere. To allow light and color to touch that part of us that says we are alive, and that these fleeting moments shown in my work can be forever captured on the canvas.
