Artist's description:

These used to be herring boats and have been upturned and used as sheds - they provide a quirky landmark on Holy Island They were once part of the largest herring fleet to sail from the east coast of England.

By the early part of the 20th Century their numbers had dwindled & many, no longer seaworthy, had been converted into sheds.

They remain today as a living reminder of a way of life that has slipped into history
