A collaged woman surrounded by neon rays and bits of golden yellow, with subtle, textural grays. A piece from my Disfashionate Series. The art is a comment on the way the fashion industry manipulates photographs of women to completely unrealistic and unattainable levels of beauty — thus establishing a kind of de facto, yet completely artificial standard that is impossible for any actual person to achieve.
“Ragazza al Sole” is a mixed media piece on paper. Please see other work from my Disfashionate Series for pieces that would work well in a gallery wall, including “Just Above the Waist”, “Come Fly with Me”, and “I’Yam What I’Yam”, or any of my “Disfashionate White” pieces.
My work is a mix of many things, and created in a number of ways. Sometimes viscerally — with brush in hand — fueled by loud music, emotion and caffeine, other times it’s more meditative, working in a deliberate fashion. Part of my process is the naming each piece, or series of pieces, and as a lover of words and language, I often feel that a piece or series is not complete until a name is crafted.
