I love cats, there is something about them that makes me smile. This painting started life more as a doodle than anything else; I liked the doodle and decided to paint it! The background is uneven, as I started off with a rough blue and white covering of oil paint which I then covered with glazes of cadmium red (there is also one glaze of cadmium yellow sandwiched in there). If you look carefully, there are also a few shards of red and orange in the background. The foreground is taken up by two cats, painted very simply and without much detail. One of these cats is playing with a beetle. The cats were painted in yellow, but covered over with one last glaze of red. The work was then varnished.
