Artist's description:

This Trace VI painting is inspired by Yayoi Kusami's serial repetition paintings which she called "Infinity Nets" made during the fifities. She received attention as a female artist and became a member of the New York School. Now she is famous for her Polka Dot Environments.

While she is using a smooth monochromatic black ground on stretched canvas, I decided to use one of my rare vintage materials:
Around an American wooden art board a canvas is wrapped. The board gives the pastose (thick) paints the stability necessary. The painting has both high and low areas, which depending on the surrounding light give it the quality of a relief ...

For this work opaque white oil paint was mixed with medium into different consistencies so partly even more build-up structures can be seen, irregularity is intended.

While Yayoi paints her Infinity Nets allover to the edge of the canvas, I taped a stripe to leave some of the underpainting visible - so mine is not infinite but has open boundaries as part of the composition.
While her brush work in her series comes across as a net, my brushstrokes look like single patterns next to each other, are not as connected to one another to form a net - to name just a few aspects and differences, and there is more to it...

Now Traces VI needs more time to dry - The sides are painted white, a hanger will be attached to the wooden back.
It can hang upright and in landscape format,
