This screen print is taken from a fleeting visit to the top of Grasmoor. It was blowing a gale so I didn't stay long. I did linger long enough to see the sun starting to light the fells south of Mellbreak in the far distance. After the drenching I had received all morning this break in the weather was good news.
This scene lingered long in my mind before I managed to develop this print. After working on the background, making the light play on the fells, I decided to make the foreground really dark to portray the poor weather I had walked through.
This image is taken from a series called ‘The Crummock Water Round’, an ongoing project to document a 2-day walk from Keswick to Buttermere Youth Hostel and back again.
Printed on 300gsm Canaletto using water based inks
