Artist's description:

This artwork is one of my entries to the Liquitex contest "Muted Colors" on Artfinder.
What 'muted' means to me can not only be expressed by words or by using muted colours.
It means more in my opinion: to me it should be visible in the whole atmosphere and the story of the painting.
In this painting which arised from intuitive working, I've tried to put myself into the theme of 'lonelyness'. What does it feel like, what colours suit this feeling and how can I express this. I started intuitively with a spacial mute coloured atmosphere in which suddenly these silhouettes appeared. Working them out a little more I found out there was a whole groupe of them. The image reminded me inmmediately of refugees, as this topic was very actual all over the world at the time I painted this. People who where leaving their homes and fatherland...travelling in large groups, some of them together, some alone but all of them very lonely....having left everything behind that they love. This feeling was something that touched me deeply and I think I have expressed it in my painting.
