This is an original encaustic painting on a cradled birch panel. Iridescent aquamarine and opal add shimmer and a subtle crackle effect to this translucent and fluid seascape with many hues of blue, pearl, purple and more. Black dry earth pigment embedded into the wax surface creates the linear effect. Part of a series of ocean paintings I created after the Deepwater Horizon oil spill disaster in the Gulf of Mexico where I have been traveling for inspiration for 20 years.
Signed and dated on the back and wired for hanging. This painting has clean birch sides and does not need to be framed which is customary for encaustic work.
