This is a painting from the series "The World of Tita Petita Chihuahua". Tita is my very special Chihuahua. I adopted her when she was 2 years and 7 months 19 days old. She likes to dress up as Characters and has all sorts of incarnations as a Witch, Nurse, Rapper, Samba singer and Dancer, Wonder Chihuahua, Hawaiian dancer etc. She is like the 'Mr Ben' of Chihuahuas. For anyone who is younger than me I will explain who Mr Benn was. He was a character in a cartoon created by David Mc Kee that I watched in the 70's and it was my favourite programme. Every week Mr Benn went to a Fancy Dress shop where the shop keeper would give him a costume to try on. he then went through a magic door opening on to a world appropriate to his costume and then had an adventure. The shop owner always appeared and Mr Benn went back to the fitting room and continued his normal life. So it is with Tita Petita Chihuahua. In this painting Tita is a Sailor on board the Sea Dog boat. I wrote a poem describing her adventure.

Tita The Sailor

One day Tita decided she'd like to be afloat,
On the briny sea on a shiny boat.
"I first will find a vessel & that will be a start,
& a Sailor hat & outfit so I can look the part!"
She came across 'The Seadog' & asked to join the crew.
The Captain said, "We have a job for someone just like you!"
"I cannot swab the deck," she said, "or tie or untie rope,
Because my paws have claws, they clearly cannot cope!"
"No it is your loud & ferocious voice that we need today,
Could you bark a warning when things get in our way?"
Just then a barge loomed into view, heading for their bow.
"Would you start immediately? We require your service now!"
So Tita bow-wowed loud & proud, & raised the alarm.
The barge stopped just in time & no one came to harm.
The Captains & the crews consented-
An accident had been prevented!
The sky looked beautiful that day in an azure shade of blue,
& the sea was calm & peaceful & a deeply turquoise hue.
So Tita kept all safe using her powerful bark,
She really felt important & it was quite a lark.
But she started to feel seasick & really miss her home.
She quit her post, went to her bed & vowed to never roam.
"A Sailor's life is not for me but it's not the end of the World."
She snuggled into her blankets & happily up she curled!
