Artist's description:

This highly textured painting is inspired by Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey. The poem is such a rich source of creative inspiration with its wonderful descriptions of bravery, struggle and intelligence. Odysseus is on his ten year struggle to return home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. He has many adventures before finally reaching home. Constantine Cavafy’s wonderful poem "Ithaca," about the importance of experience, is a further source of inspiration for the paintings. The poem speaks of the importance of the journey in forming your character, for that gives you experience and makes you what you are. The journey being more significant than the destination - a metaphor. The title comes from Heidegger's work "Being and Time" which argues that all we have is the “time” we take up. He asks what is meant by “to be” and what does “being” mean? Considered by some to be “the father of existentialism.” I'm playing with the idea of "being" tied up in time as, in a sense, Odysseus is. "The painting gives the feeling of a journey across the canvas and the heat of the Aegean.
