I painted this view of the queue to see Queen Elizabeth II lying in state on 16 September 2022. I set up on Lambeth Bridge at 9 am and painted until mid afternoon. By this point the people had been in the queue for around 16 hours.
It was a momentous and memorable day. I was interviewed by the BBC and ITN and by numerous foreign news agencies and featured in the UK on BBC News at 6 and News at 10, and on Channel 4's flagship news programme.
This was the second painting of the day and I had spotted these three ex-soldiers crossing the bridge so hastily put them in the painting. Later they too were interviewed and appeared on BBC News!
The painting is in oils on a wooden panel and measures 9 x 12 inches. Requires framing.
