This is an original oil painting on stretched canvas. It is inspired by the quote "The world is a book and those who do not travel read only a page." by St. Augustine
There are a lot of elements to this painting that symbolize travel and a love of the education that comes from it. There are the books of course, but also the floating world, pocket watch and paper airplane. The pocket watch signifies that time is moving on and if you don't go now, when will you? The paper airplane not only symbolizes the obvious, flying on a plane, but also our own tendency to goof off when there is so much to be done (or we think so). The books signify knowledge and faith but also the fact that nothing is as educational as sometimes throwing the guidebooks aside and going out to discover the world and faith in people on your own.
