Artist's description:

On a visit to the state of Veracruz, Mexico, I had the opportunity to step into historic buildings that had stood against the ravages of time to be re-purposed several times over the centuries. There is an energy in them that I find fascinating and mysterious. I tried to feel the passage of time and the power of the many people that walked these corridors.
I painted many layers of hot wax paint to create this work. I left it heavily textured and impressionistic. Each layer of encaustic paint was fused into the underlying layer with propane torch. Encaustic is an ancient technique and I felt it served well to express the age of this edifice.

Materials used:

oil, beeswax, damar resin
