Artist's description:

My Great Grandmother, Eusebia warned my mother when she was a small girl that she shouldn't curse and she shouldn't be naughty. Eusebia told my mother that if she was bad the Virgin would come in mid air and ask for rice and beans. But, my mother said to me that she wouldn't listen to her grandmother and she cursed loudly while she tried to pull her big wooden rocker across the porch. It was then that my mother told me she looked up to see the Virgin coming toward her floating in mid air asking for rice and beans! Mother was very frightened but Eusebia didn't say the Virgin wasn't there. Instead, she said to my mother to get down on her knees and ask for forgiveness. In my mother's honor I painted this image of the Virgin of Rice and Beans so that we can ask for forgiveness daily.
