Artist's description:

Painting: Wax and Tree resin on Wood.

We see a young girl playing her accordion on a street in Oaxaca Mexico. After seeing and photographing her, I was inspired to make of the biggest encaustic paintings I have ever made. I applied many layers of the hot wax and resin paint, carefully heat fusing in each layer for permanence of color and longevity of the surface. Then I began scraping away some of the top layers to expose the colors underneath, giving the look and feeling of the old and peeling walls. I painted the figure loosely, with brushes and the hot wax paint, so it appears that she is very much part of this scene. This painting is on a cradled wood panel and needs no frame,

Materials used:

beeswax, tree resin, powdered pigments
