Artwork description:

This print is part of a series of limited colour images I generated in 2013. Taken from original drawing created in my sketch book, the image uses a line drawing as it's structure, to which I added a couple of simple colour layers in the background.

The lonely tree in question is part of the limestone landscape around Ingleton in the Yorkshire Dales. I have drawn this tree many times, seeing it as a metaphor for hanging onto life when all around you have fallen away. Sounds a little depressing, but this weather beaten, lichen encrusted tree is anything but. The stoic tree is a self portrait of sorts, showing the world that I can survive what happen around me and continue to stand tall, and should be celebrated as a result.

Materials used:

Printed on 300gsm Snowdon using water based inks
