Artist's description:

it was dark. it rained. then the stars showed. each cat then saw the other. they growled. grrr, GRRR. then they met. this painting was inspired by a style (manga) developed in japan in the late 19th century. it has a long and complex prehistory in earlier japanese art. this particular scroll was juried and exhibited in the art town of rockland, maine. traditionally scrolls were vehicles for displaying calligraphy/painting, capturing a feeling of nature/an idea, to be hung to set a mood, and changed often to match an occasion/season. my reinvention of japanese "kakejiku" are on synthetic material similar in appearance to rice paper, but stronger, waterproof and tear-resistant, and framed, ie, hung on anodized aluminium rods along the top & bottom edges

Materials used:

golden acrylics, graphite, ink
